“Be so good they can’t ignore you.” Steven Martin said that. In those seven little words he conveys a philosophy of life more concisely than any Self Help book ever could. Hard work, dedication and persistence are key elements to success. At the same time, there are factors outside of your control which can inhibit your chances at success. One such factor is the deep resources of large corporations.
Advertising is an integral piece in the consumerism puzzle. Corporations spend astronomical amounts of money researching, developing and producing adverts. It only makes sense, people can’t buy your product if they don’t know it exists. Additionally, these adverts not only inform consumers about products but are also specifically designed to instill a sense of urgency and necessity in the consumer.
This manipulation is achieved through subtle use of psychological triggers such as word play, color design, music, and positive and negative association. These techniques have been engineered to such a degree that it’s become a kind of science.
The theory of these techniques is widely available and not difficult to comprehend. However, the implementation of these techniques is a delicate and precise matter. It takes much trial and error, which equates to time and money, to get it right. Even big corporations can fail at creating effective adverts. For instance, movie studios spend tens of millions of dollars marketing a movie that ultimately flops. It happens more often than you’d think.
How are smaller companies, with limited resources and shoe-string advertising budgets, to compete? There is no definitive answer to that question, anyone who says otherwise is lying or an imbecile. Or both. Advertising is a labyrinthine and complex endeavor that struggles to catch up to the ever fickle moods of the masses.
Our biggest asset, and one that costs virtually nothing, is the innovation of ideas. Here at Banyan Enterprises we understand the traditional principles that are the foundation of advertising. With this knowledge we are equipped to deconstruct those principles, to turn them on their heads and create something fresh. Our mission is to create evocative, compelling, topical and effective advertising that is non-traditional and innovative.
We’re doing it and we can do it for you!
